Parent and Family Education

Parent and Family Education

What is Parent Education?

Parent education is a training program that helps parents acquire skills to improve their parenting and enhance their communication with their children. Parent education helps reduce the risk of child maltreatment, including abuse and neglect, and seeks to reduce children’s disruptive behaviors. Parent education may be delivered individually or in a group setting and may be offered in the home, a classroom, or at an agency. Successful parent education programs seek to assist parents in acquiring skills necessary to build healthy families.

What can I do with a Parent and Family Education Certificate?

The Center’s Parent Education Certificate Program is intended for individuals who wish to enhance their knowledge and study issues relevant to parenting and family life and develop skills useful in working with parents and families. Students who receive the certificate are qualified to work in health care, social-service agencies and institutions, and faith-based settings who offer family services.
