Many thanks to all who participated in the 2020 Zippy's MAC Challenge at The University of Akron. Congratulations to the College of Business Administration, which repeated as the UA "team" with the most donor support!
Zippy’s MAC Challenge started on a high note this year: Both the men’s and women’s teams earned MAC Tournament playoff spots, and the men were the No. 1 seed. Of course, COVID-19 changed everything, and this Challenge wasn’t nearly as fun when our Zips weren’t actually playing.
No matter who you were rooting for, today we all are on the same team. Let’s rally together and follow the guidelines we’ve been given to defeat COVID-19. Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay informed.
If we do this together, next year EVERY Zip and EVERY Zips fan will be back, ready for another challenge.

WHAT: Giving challenge for ZIPS ON THE RISE scholarships
WHEN: March 9 – 14, 2020
WHO: Open to all!
HOW: Three ways to give:
- Visit our online form, choose your favorite "team" from the drop-down menu, and score for your "team" by making a gift.
- Text ZippyMAC to 41444 on your mobile device.

ROUND 2: FINAL
(12 am on 3/11 through 11:59 pm on 3/12)
The team (on each side of the bracket) with the most cumulative points will advance to the Championship Round. Round Two (unlike Round One) is not head-to-head. Teams are competing against the other two teams on their side of the bracket. The team with the third-highest support will be the Wildcard in the Championship – and that Wildcard can be from Round One or Round Two.

FAQs
Zippy’s MAC Challenge is a head-to-head giving challenge among 12 University of Akron colleges/areas. Participants vote for their favorite “team” by making a gift, which helps their college/area win bragging rights for having the most donor support. The challenge includes two rounds and a championship round and takes place from 12 a.m. EST on March 9 through 11:59 p.m. EST on March 14. (But early scoring is permitted for Round One!)
Your gift is crucial! Every dollar supports ZIPS ON THE RISE student scholarships at The University of Akron. Gifts received during Zippy’s MAC Challenge will help ensure that deserving students in need of financial assistance are able to continue and complete their education.
Yes! Everyone can be part of the challenge. Gifts are welcome from alumni, faculty, staff, students, and UA friends throughout the community.
When you access the giving page from this website or your mobile device, simply choose your favorite college/area from the drop-down menu and make a gift. If you call to make your gift, you can select your favorite “team” over the phone. Your tax-deductible gift will be credited to that college/area. Check the web page each day during the challenge for a scoring update.
- Slam dunk = $100 Gift = 4 points

Yes! The more you give, and the more times you give, the more points you earn for your college/area. Encouraging others to give, too!
At the end of each round, points will be tallied for each college/area and displayed on the web page. The colleges/teams with the most points in their match-up will advance to the next round. Round one will take place March 9-10, and round two will take place March 11-12. The championship round will be held March 13-14. Point totals are cumulative and carry over throughout the rounds.
Cutoff times to make a gift for each round are:
- Round 1: March 10, 11:59 p.m. EST
- Round 2: March 12, 11:59 p.m. EST
- Championship Round: March 14, 11:59 p.m. EST
If your college/area is eliminated in round one or round two, don’t worry – they’re still in the game! One eliminated college/area will participate in the championship round on March 13-14 as a wildcard team. The eliminated college/area with the highest number of points as of 11:59 p.m. EST on March 12 will be chosen as the wildcard team. So keep giving!
Yes! Your gift will be received by The University of Akron Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports The University of Akron.
