Biography

Dr. Suzanne Allen serves as the Executive Director of Barberton Community Foundation and leads a staff who are committed to strengthening the Barberton community for current and future generations by providing leadership, fostering collaboration, and creating a legacy of giving to do good. Prior to her appointment at Barberton Community Foundation, she was the President and CEO of Philanthropy Ohio, at statewide membership association focused on educating, advocating and convening foundations and other grantmakers in Ohio. She has also served as the Vice President for Development and Donor Services for the Akron Community Foundation. She has more than three decades of nonprofit leadership. During her career Suzanne has held teaching, senior fundraising, and leadership positions with several universities, and has served as a private consultant helping clients in the nonprofit and academic sectors across the country. She continue to teach course related to fundraising and grantmaking as an adjunct professor at the University of Akron. She holds degrees in English Education from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, a Master’s in Marketing from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Human Resource Development/Strategic Planning from Georgia State University. Suzanne values her service on many boards and her role as a volunteer. She has been recognized by the Columbus Business First newspaper as one of the area's “People to Know in Not for profits” as well as by Northern Ohio Live magazine as an Athena Awards finalist. The Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio recognized her as a “2015 Woman of Distinction” and her alma mater, Columbus State University, honored her with the “2015 Excellence in Alumni Achievement Award.” Additionally, Suzanne is a sought after writer and speaker, regionally and nationally, on topics related to organizational culture, leadership and philanthropy.
