Our faculty expertise in electric vehicles, batteries, and intelligent sensors include specific research in the following focus areas: power electronics, charging stations, lithium-ion batteries, battery management and design, grid; energy storage system, bidirectional grid-interfaces, motor design, motor drives, hybrid/electric vehicles and aircrafts; wind turbines, solar energy, fuel cells, beyond lithium-ion batteries, energy harvesting, sensor and control systems; health-monitoring, and wireless embedded networked sensor design.

Akron Functional Materials Center

Director: Dr. Yu Zhu

Directed by Dr. Yu Zhu, the focus of The Akron Functional Materials Center is to drive polymer innovations to achieve commercialization. The current themes associated with the research clusters are biomaterials, coatings and adhesives, 3-D printing, polymer assembly, and energy/electronic.

Center for Advanced Vehicles and Energy Systems (CAVES)

The mission of The Center for Advanced Vehicles and Energy Systems is to be a leader in the creation of sustainable and clean energy sources, and to facilitate the adoption of these technologies.
