Remembering John Eric Miller

In John Eric Miller’s 28 years of life, he achieved high academic honor and, more importantly, was known as a man of honor. John went the extra mile, sharing his time and friendship with his colleagues, classmates, family, friends, and all those around him.

A Mount Eaton, Ohio, native, John was a transportation engineer for AECOM, where he was viewed as a talented, rising young engineer. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in civil engineering from The University of Akron in 2015. John fell ill during an international trip with his family to Paris and passed away in August 2018.

Outside of work, John was a dedicated worship leader in his church and had a deep love for nature and his community. These are the hallmark remembrances that remain with his family, friends, and colleagues and led them to establish a scholarship to honor his memory: The John Eric Miller Memorial Endowed Scholarship at The University of Akron.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a civil engineering student (or students) selected by the Civil Engineering Scholarship Committee in UA’s College of Engineering. Because John enjoyed mentoring younger engineers, this scholarship will support talented, deserving students and continue his passion for helping them.

Please consider a gift to the scholarship that will be as impactful and generous to students as John Eric Miller was to each of us. All gifts are tax deductible. Thank you.
