Miranda Brainard will be the student speaker at the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences spring 2025 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, at the James A. Rhodes Arena. She is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Statistics.

Q: Why did you want to go to UA?

A: I chose UA because this community is unlike any other. The people I have met here have taken a real interest in my success and well-being, and have challenged me and supported me in ways I never would have imagined.

Q: What campus activities were you involved in?

A:  I was involved in the Zips Activities Board (ZAB), Undergraduate Student Government (USG), Williams Honors College, National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and the Emerging Leaders Program. I was also a research assistant, admissions tour guide and orientation leader.

Q: What campus honors or awards have you received?

A: I received a Top 10 Senior Award (2025), the WHC Award of Distinction (2025), the Outstanding Sophomore Award (2023), the Alumni Association Student Recognition Award (2023) and the Outstanding First Year Student Award (2022). I’ve also been on the President’s List since 2021.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?

A: I’m going to attend the University of Mount Union to pursue a master’s degree in physician assistant studies.

Q: What is your favorite memory of UA?

A:  My favorite memory of UA is constantly running into friends on campus and the little laughs and memories shared with the UA community every day.

Q: What unique things should we know about you?

A:  I have studied abroad twice – once in Moorea, French Polynesia, and once in Kyoto, Japan. I also have three research publications to my name.
