June Safety Focus: Unattended Experiments / New Form

06/01/2017

CPSPE,

This month's safety focus is Unattended Experiments / New Form. All unattended experiments that take place over night or during the day REQUIRE this form. This form provides EOHS and the fire department pertinent information regarding your experiment if there should be an emergency in your lab, or the building.

The form can be accessed on the EOHS website or our CPSPE Safety Office page: http://www.uakron.edu/polymer/operations/safety-office

The form must be completely filled out. If you have any questions or would like me to show you how to fill out the form please contact me.

Some of the changes in the protocol include:

  1. Quicker to fill out.
  2. There is now a check box to confirm your advisor has approved the experiment.
  3. The form is only 1 page.
  4. Only need to fill out chemicals used, no amounts are needed.
  5. You only need to print 1 copy and hang on the outside of your lab door. No longer need to hang on your hood.

Please review the updated Unattended Experiments Protocol and updated form. This protocol is mandatory for all unattended experiments and listed as one of the Lab Safety Rules. Anyone not complying with this University of Akron protocol is subject to the student safety violation policy.

Make it a Safer Day!
