Leslie Harrison new poetry

The University of Akron Press is thrilled to announce that it will publish Reck, a new collection of poems by Leslie Harrison. Harrison's second book, The Book of Endings (University of Akron Press, 2017) was a finalist for the National Book Award.

Reck, a verb, means two things—to pay attention to, and to be alarmed by.

The poems in Reck are about the ways we--individuals, citizens, humans, and the planet--are beset, and how best to face so many slowly unfolding disasters. Reck is concerned with (and alarmed by) time, history, grief, the pandemic, and climate change, but the poems argue for love and beauty, argue for striking up the band, sending music out across the cold oceans, even as the decks tilt under us.

Harrison’s first book, Displacement (Mariner, 2009) won the Bakeless Prize in poetry from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. She is a National Endowment for the Arts fellow in creative writing, and a Baker Artist Award winner. She lives and works in Baltimore.
