University Of Akron Wayne College Receives Wayne County Community Foundation Grant
The University of Akron Wayne College has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the John Kaylor Memorial Fund, a component fund of the Wayne County Community Foundation. The grant is to be used to help defray the cost of building a second entrance/exit and connecting road for the Wayne College campus.
The new road will run off Crown Hill Road, following a tree line on the former old airport westward, and then turn to connect with the present campus parking lot. Construction of the entrance/exit road is expected to begin this fall and be completed in the spring of 2012.
According to Wayne College Dean Jack Kristofco, the second entrance/exit will provide improved traffic flow and safety on campus.
“Having multiple entry and departure points will reduce traffic jams at peak class times and provide an alternative exit from campus in the event of an emergency,” says Kristofco. “The new road will also open up the entire airport side of campus for wide use and development in the future. It’s gratifying to see that community partners such as the Wayne County Community Foundation recognize the value of this project and are interested in providing support.”
Wayne College is the regional campus of The University of Akron, and offers the first two years of general bachelor’s degree courses for students who plan to complete their degrees at the Akron campus or other colleges and universities. In addition, Wayne College offers a bachelor’s degree in organizational supervision, a Saturday MBA program and a wide variety of associate degrees and occupational programs.
