Dance students from The University of Akron (UA) and The Ohio State University (OSU) are combining their talents for "Stream," a contemporary dance performance Sept. 14 and 15 in Dublin, Ohio.
Choreographed by Robin Prichard, an assistant professor in the UA Dance Program, "Stream" is an original work being created specifically for outdoor performances on the sloping riverfront grounds of the Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr.
The free public dress rehearsal is Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. and the free 40-minute performances are Sept. 14 and 15 at 6:30 p.m. The performances will also be streamed live for a worldwide audience.
In taking the dance out of the traditional theatrical venue, "Stream" seeks to foster a sense of interconnectedness between the performers and the audience, between the audience and the land, and among individual audience members.
"This artwork engages audience members with the opportunity to comprehend the simplicity of the infinite," explains Prichard. "In doing so, we hope to inspire thoughts about the interplay of cause and effect between humans and land."
UA professor's work widely known
Prichard's choreography is noted for its wit and vulnerability. It has been seen throughout the United States in venues such as Joyce/SoHo, Dance Space, Highways, California Choreographers’ Festival and Dance Kaleidoscope as well as venues large and small in Australia. Prichard is a Fulbright Scholar and completed a cross-cultural choreography project between Australian Aboriginal and contemporary dance. She specializes in the intersection between native and concert dance. Prichard holds a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase and an MFA from the University California, Los Angeles.
"Stream" is presented by the Dublin Arts Council and OhioDance in collaboration with the OSU Department of Dance, the UA Dance Program and the Ohio Department of Education Division of the Arts. It is also supported by Holiday Inn Express Columbus-Dublin.
