UA Hosts Student Research Conference on Nov. 17

Akron, Ohio, Nov. 4, 2005 - Student research in a myriad of disciplines ranging from the arts to the sciences will be showcased at the 2005 Conference on Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research hosted by The University of Akron on Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Student Union.

More than 160 students from The University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, Youngstown State University, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation will participate with poster and oral presentations. Students from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School also will make a special presentation.

Dr. Joan Bennett, associate professor of English and founder of the undergraduate research program at the University of Delaware, will speak at the conference luncheon to discuss the benefits of student research and strategies for institutionalizing undergraduate research. Bennett has advised more than 50 institutions interested in establishing undergraduate research programs. Her research publications on poet John Milton have twice received the James Holly Hanford award for the most distinguished work in the field.

The conference's research presentations and workshops are free and open to the public. There is a cost for the luncheon and reservations are required.
