Nov. 11, 2005 - The University of Akron Research Foundation presented its inaugural UARF 2005 poster award and a special recognition at the recent Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science Sponsors Day Program.

Matthew J. Graham of North Canton is the winner of the graduate student award. Under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Cheng, Graham presented on The Synthesis of High Performance Poly(thiophene) for the Fabrication of 3-D Polymeric Photonic Band Gap Crystals.

Special recognition was given to Holley Wickwire of Akron, a student at Central-Hower High School, who is participating in the university's Postsecondary Honors Academy. Wickwire presented on the Interface Structure of Diblock Copolymer Brushes Synthesized by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization.

The UARF poster award was created to encourage students to recognize the commercial applications of their own research conducted at the university. Graham and Wickwire were awarded $250 and $100, respectively.
