Gender Symposium is April 20-21

Akron, Ohio, April 6, 2006 The Committee for Research on Women/Gender (CROW) at The University of Akron is sponsoring an interdisciplinary symposium showcasing graduate research on gender on Thursday and Friday, April 20-21.

The event, being organized by the graduate student CROW group at the University and cosponsored by the faculty CROW group, will be held in the Knight Room at the Martin University Center, 105 Fir Hill.

The program, meals and refreshments on both days are free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.

The program begins at 6 p.m. on April 20 with a dinner, followed by a presentation by Marta Santos, a historian of gender in Latin America. Santos will join the UA history department as an assistant professor in the fall semester.

Graduate students will present papers dealing with gender and women's issues in morning and afternoon sessions on April 21.

Other sponsoring groups include the Office of the Dean of the Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences, the Women's and Pan-African studies programs, Sociologists for Women in Society and the history, sociology and English departments.
