NSF's Dr. Luis Echegoyen to present program on chemistry

01/06/2009

The University of Akron and the American Chemical Society, Akron Section, will host a program on chemistry by Dr. Luis Echegoyen, National Science Foundation (NSF) division director for chemistry.

The program will begin with a presentation and workshop, "What's Happening at NSF Chemistry?" on Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in UA's Student Union, Room 335.

A reception for workshop and lecture attendees will follow from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Martin University Center. A research lecture, opened to the public and titled "Structure and Properties of Trimetallic Nitride Endohedral Fullerenes," will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and complete the evening events.

Echegoyen maintains an active research program at Clemson University with interests including Fullerene electrochemistry, monolayer films, supramolecular chemistry and spectroscopy; endohedral Fullerene chemistry and electrochemistry; carbon nano onion synthesis, derivation and fractionation; and chemical and active cation transport through membranes.

University faculty members and students are welcome to attend one or more of these events. To register for the presentation and workshop, contact Mary Dingler, UA Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs, at ext. 7774 or mdingler@uakronedu.

This event is co-sponsored by the UA Department of Chemistry; the American Chemical Society, Akron Section; and the UA Office of Research Services and Special Programs.
