AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron George W. Daverio School of Accountancy is proud to announce that Associate Professor, Dr. Doron Narotzki, has been awarded the highly competitive Hugh Ault Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance.

The Hugh Ault Fellowship is a fully funded visiting scholars program that brings outstanding tax researchers from outside Germany to Munich for a research residency. Fellows present their work and engage in sustained scholarly exchange with the Institute’s research community. Notably, Dr. Narotzki was invited to receive the fellowship — an uncommon distinction given the program’s competitive nature — and was identified by the Institute as a “rising star” in the field. He will complete his residency in the latter half of May.

Housed within the Max Planck Society — Germany’s premier basic research organization, which counts 31 Nobel laureates among its researchers — the Institute serves as a leading interdisciplinary center for tax law and public finance. The Hugh Ault Fellowship honors Professor Emeritus Hugh Ault and supports exceptional young scholars advancing research in taxation and public economics.

While this recognition reflects individual scholarly achievement, it also underscores the national and international strength of the School’s Master of Taxation (MTax) program and the broader impact of the School of Accountancy and College of Business.

“This fellowship is an extraordinary honor and a testament to the strength of our tax faculty and our MTax program,” said Professor Julianne Jones, director of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy. “Being invited to participate in a program of this caliber speaks volumes about the quality of scholarship emerging from our School and the meaningful contributions our faculty are making to the field of taxation.”

Dr. Terry Daugherty, dean of the College of Business, added, “Recognition from a globally respected research institute such as the Max Planck Institute reinforces the academic excellence of our College. Opportunities like this elevate not only our faculty’s research profile, but also the experience we provide our students, particularly within our nationally recognized tax programs.”

The University of Akron College of Business continues to build its reputation for academic rigor, research excellence and strong industry connections — preparing students for leadership in accounting, taxation and beyond.
