Carrie Fister, an instructor in the Department of Sport Science and Wellness Education in the College of Education, was honored with the Athletic Trainer of the Year award by the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association.

Carrie Fister

Fister is the first athletic trainer in the department to earn this honor.

"It is very humbling to receive this award," says Fister, who joined UA in 2008. "I work with a lot of great athletic trainers that are very deserving of this award, so to be selected as a recipient is a great honor. I love working with the students here at UA and it is nice to be recognized for my contributions to the athletic training profession."

Fister was nominated for the award by a fellow athletic trainer. To qualify for consideration, nominees must be making contributions to the field at the state, district, and/or national level; support the profession of athletic training at the state, district, and/or national level, and be a well-respected member of their community.

"Carrie was instrumental in revamping and modernizing the Student Quiz Bowl and Symposium as well as adding an Athletic Training Student Olympics," said her nominator. "She has created educational opportunities for athletic training students in the state of Ohio that will benefit future students for decades to come," says her nominator.

Fister will be honored twice this spring — first at the Ohio High School Athletic Association on March 23 and then by the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association at its annual meeting in May.
