MSW Students Went on a Field Trip to NEOMED

On Tuesday, October 24th Professors John Ellis and Gabrielle Faggella-Fuller coordinated a field trip for several sections of SWK 663 Psychopathology to visit the NorthEast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown. Embedded within their School of Psychiatry is the nationally recognized Best Practices In Schizophrenia Treatment Center (BeST Center). The Director of the BeST Center, Patti Fetzer, is one of our very own MSW Alumni (2001). Several experts in the field of schizophrenia shared cutting-edge research and best practices with our students including:

  • Erik Messamore, MD: First Episode Psychosis Models, Pharmacotherapy.
  • Valerie Krieder, PhD: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for persons with Schizophrenia
  • Danielle Hupp, PhD: Family Education and Support. 
Additionally,  Maria Dixon, an Akron MSW Macro student completing her field placement at NEOMED, presented information on MSW field placement opportunities within the Medical School.
