Biography

I joined the University of Akron School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in 2015 after graduating with a dual-Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) and Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Cincinnati.  My Ph.D. dissertation research focused on the Establishment of Normative Auditory Electrophysiologic Measures in Military and Service Working Dogs (Unclassified).  During my studies, I obtained a Certificate in Animal Audiology from FETCHLABTM through the University of Cincinnati, a lab devoted to canine hearing testing and the study of animal bioacoustics.  I opened and am currently the director of FETCHLABTM Akron located in the Audiology and Speech Center, in collaboration with our colleagues from the University of Cincinnati (UC FETCHLABTM, Founder) and the University of Northern Colorado (FETCHLABTM UNC).

I completed my clinical audiology externship at Yale Hearing and Balance Center in Connecticut.  While working clinically, I initiated a research project correlating objective and subjective (screening) measures in patients with balance disorders.  I continue to have interest in the assessment and management of patients with balance disorders and am working to develop future research projects in this area.  Currently, I hold an Au.D. License in the state of Ohio and am Board Certified through the American Board of Audiology.

Prior to my doctoral studies, I completed a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Animal Science and Bioacoustics at The University of Connecticut.  My Master’s thesis research focused on the Classification of Vocalizations using a Hidden Markov Model to Identify Social Groups of Beluga Whales in the St. Lawrence River Estuary in Canada.  It is with no surprise that I come from a non-traditional, diverse background, although I have found that my experiences offer unique and interesting opportunities for our students and while working with fellow colleagues.
