NEW THIS YEAR!

Students, at this year’s Western Reserve District 5 Science Day you will have an opportunity to qualify for the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair hosted by COSI on March 30, 2019. This is in addition to potentially qualifying for the Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day on May 11, 2019.

What is the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair?
As a program of The Ohio Academy of Science, the Buckeye Science & Engineering Fair (BSEF) provides Ohio's students in grades 9-12 with an opportunity to qualify for the International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF). The ISEF is the largest and most prestigious science fair in the world. Each year over 1,700 students from more than 70 countries, regions, and territories around the world gather to compete for nearly $5,000,000 in awards and scholarships. For information please visit Intel ISEF.

How do I get to the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair?
Each District Science Day is allocated a certain number of students (grades 9-12 only) they can advance to BSEF. These selected students may then compete at the BSEF for the opportunity to advance to the ISEF. The allocation numbers are tentative, but District 5 Science Day at the University of Akron is currently allocated 27 projects to advance to BSEF. The BSEF currently plans to send 6 students to ISEF.
