Biography

Dr. Duirk joined the University of Akron in 2009. He is a proud Zip class of '99. Prior to joining the faculty at UA he worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Duirk is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Water Works Association. He serves as a Technical Reviewer for the National Science Foundation. 


Research

Total water infrastructure sustainability, fate of pesticides in aquatic and engineered systems, transformation of pharmaceuticals during drinking water and wastewater treatment, impact of wastewater contaminants on aquatic systems, impact of agricultural runoff on blue-green algae and the formation of algal derived toxins and taste & odor compounds
