In Memory of Former Dean Louis Hill

Louis A. Hill Jr. served as the fifth dean of the University of Akron College of Engineering from 1981-1988. During his tenure as dean, the College experienced growth in faculty, minority students, graduate programs and research.

Hill established the Department of Polymer Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He also worked with the mayor of the City of Akron and The Minorities in Mainstream Technology Committee to establish the annual Mayor’s Recognition Dinner, where Akron –area high school students from underrepresented groups are honored for their outstanding academic achievement and interest in science and engineering.

Sadly, Louis Hill passed away in January 2015. His memory, hard work, and dedication to engineering students will be remembered by his former colleagues and students.

If you would like to support Dr. Hill's scholarship through the College of Engineering, please contact Megan Hopper, Director of Development, at 330-972-5686 or mhopper@uakron.edu.
