Dominion Foundation awards grant to UA

09/28/2014

The University of Akron was one of just eight Ohio universities and colleges to receive a Dominion Foundation Higher Education Grant for 2014. The grants focus on programs that help prepare students for technical positions in Ohio's growing energy production and other industries.

Students in the Corrosion Engineering Technology program at The University of Akron will benefit from the generosity of the Dominion Foundation.

Awarded to The University of Akron Foundation, the grant from Dominion will be used to purchase new corrosion laboratory equipment for UA’s Corrosion Engineering Technology program, helping students learn, firsthand, about corrosion testing applications.

“Ohio industries require an increasing number of well-trained candidates to meet the demand for skilled employees,” said Scott Miller, Dominion East Ohio vice president and general manager. “Ohio's colleges, universities and technical schools are helping to train this new generation of workers, and Dominion is committed to supporting these educational efforts.”

The Ohio Higher Education Grants are part of $1.3 million in grants the Dominion Foundation is awarding this year to colleges and primary and secondary schools in states where the company does business.

Additional recipients of this year’s Dominion Foundation Higher Education Grants included Zane State College, Marietta College, Kent State University at Stark, Belmont College, Cuyahoga Community College Foundation, Malone University, and Stark State College Foundation.
