The Department of Polymer Science is pleased to welcome Assistant Professor Junpeng Wang to The University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.
Dr. Wang received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2010. Right after graduation from college, he came to the United States and began doctoral work at Duke University, where he received his Ph.D. in 2015. Following his Ph.D., he worked as a postdoc scientist at the University of Chicago and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before starting his independent career at The University of Akron.
Dr. Wang’s research efforts are focused on bridging molecular reactivity and topology to macroscopic materials properties. Under this theme, he has done a wide range of work, including quantifying force and reactivity in polymer mechanochemistry, synthesis of porous energy storage materials, and counting loops in polymer networks. Current projects in Dr. Wang’s research group include harvesting mechanical forces for constructive chemistry and stress sensing for biophysical studies.
"We are very happy that Dr. Junpeng Wang joined our department," said Department Chair and A. Schulman Professor Tianbo Liu. "His expertise on the polymer synthesis, especially physical organic chemistry and polymer mechanochemistry will significantly strengthen our program. We see extensive synergies between his expertise and our current research efforts, and are hoping to create new research ideas and directions."
