Future Earth Event - Q&A

Recently, The University of Akron's Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) Chapter hosted Future Earth, a student-led STEM outreach event focused on educating middle school students about sustainability and clean energy.

Forty students from Hawken and Nordonia middle schools attended, and the day’s events featured student-built wind turbines and solar cars, recycling activities, and a Q&A about college life with ESW student volunteers.

Future Earth Event - Testing Wind Turbines

The middle school students brought their own wind turbines or solar cars that they had built and customized at school, and these designs were tested and judged and final awards were given to the "best" wind turbine and solar car.

Thanks to the student volunteers representing the Society of Women Engineers, the Concrete Canoe Design Team, and Elevate Akron for their hard work and making the event a success! And special thanks to Dr. Alper Buldum and Dr. Jennifer Lillard for helping judge the student designs.
