Last week, three School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering students received awards at the American Filtration & Separations Society FiltCon annual conference held in Louisville, Kentucky.

The FiltCon conference features the latest research and development of filtration technology and focuses on sustainability, circular economy, zero discharge, carbon capture, and green fiber/filter media.

As part of the conference events, a student poster competition was held featuring research topics involving novel materials and methods in various fields of filtration.

Congratulations to the following students who each received certificates and monetary prizes:

  • First Place: Moni Mahesh Ghosh
Upcycling of polyolefin feedstock into usable filter media using plant-based solvents
This research focuses on turning polyolefinic wastes into aerogels and using them as filter media for air filtration and oil-water separation.
    Advisor: Dr. Sadhan Jana
  • Third Place: Leyao Wu
3D printing aided fabrication of polyolefin composite filter for airborne particle filtration
This research focuses on developing polyolefinic composite aerogels with 3D printed scaffolds for air filtration.
    Advisor: Dr. Sadhan Jana
  • Honorable Mention: Pratik Gotad
Aerogel Glass Fiber Composite Filter Media for Separation of Water from Diesel Fuel
This research focuses on evaluating the filtration ability of polymer aerogel-coated glass fiber media in liquid-liquid separation.
    Advisor: Dr. Sadhan Jana
