Police advise about outside group

The University's police department is advising students about an off-campus organization approaching students in the Student Union and elsewhere and encouraging them to learn more about the group, reportedly even offering a car ride on the spot to do so.

Under federal and state laws, the representatives are permitted to recruit on campus. Our police have talked with them about our guidelines that apply to all outside groups.

The group has been active on other campuses as well.

"Before you join or donate to any group, you would be well served to take time, do some research and learn more about their work and reputation," said Jim Weber, chief of University police. "Most groups are reputable and provide valuable service to our community. Do your homework, and you'll know who these groups are."
