AWARENESS

  1. Attitude
  2. Identifying the problem and defining the issue

ADJUSTMENT

  1. Skills
  2. Identifying how you view the problem and developing skills to take action

ADVOCACY

  1. Action
  2. Using your learned skills to be an active bystander and empowered zip

Being EMPOWERED means you are an active bystander and are willing to take a stand in our community to create a culture of respect.

We use 3 A’s to show how you can become empowered: Awareness, Adjustment and Advocacy.

First, you can’t take action to solve a problem without first acknowledging the problem exists. This means not only identifying what sexual assault is and the scope of the problem, but also becoming aware of your current attitude toward the issue. We’re going to help you with that process today by sharing some statistics, as well as some of the more harmful ways sexual assault is viewed in culture.

Once you have knowledge on the topic and have pieced together your current attitudes toward it, it’s time to make adjustments so that our attitudes can be more helpful towards creating a culture that says “we will not tolerate sexual violence.” Envision what you want this culture to look like and create a plan for making it happen. What skills will you need to develop to complete your action plan?

Advocacy is then taking those skills you’ve identified and practiced and putting them into action. This being an active bystander and supporting those who are affected by sexual misconduct.

If every Zip is an empowered one, we can help make everyone’s experience at UA a safe and happy one.
