Accepts interns in the Fall and Spring

Interns mostly ride alongside with police and assist on calls when possible. Previous interns helped with keeping track of evidence and searching scenes. Interns can also go to court if they are available. Interns must work afternoons or evenings.

One intern per semester

In exchange for allowing interns to attend various training sessions such as Range, Defensive Tactics, SWAT, Evidence Technician training, interns assist with special projects as well. This could include preparing manuals for new hires, preparing items for auction, etc. Interns will also shadow members of the Detective Bureau, Records, and the Crime Prevention Unit. Interns will attend various court sessions such as preliminaries, arraignments, drug court, traffic court, and mental health court. If the intern is 21 years of age, he/she will be able to ride-along with a patrol officer for a 6-hour shift.

Interns ride along with officers and spend some time with the various special positions in the department. Interns usually have some clerical tasks to work on once a week. Students must apply and complete a brief background check. If there are multiple applications, the first will be accepted.
