What does Subject Tutoring do?

Subject Tutoring, offered through Tutorial Services, offers support to students taking classes to meet their general education requirements. Many entry-level courses are challenging, especially in subjects like math, chemistry, biology, physics, and foreign languages. The trained peer tutors of Tutorial Services can help you master the concepts of these demanding courses and learn how to study college-level materials.

Meet the Tutorial Services Staff

Tutorial Services is staffed by peer tutors who have successfully completed the courses they tutor. They are all trained and certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). They come from a variety of backgrounds and majors, but all have mastered the course material and are committed to helping others.

For what subjects do tutors offer support?

eTutoring.org

A face-to-face session with a subject tutor is an ideal way to get assistance with your General Education courses. However, because of time or geographic constraints, it may not always be possible for you to schedule an appointment with Tutorial Services.

An alternative to Bierce Tutorial Services is eChat, a service of eTutoring.org. eChat supports the following subject areas:  accounting, anatomy and physiology, biology, calculus, chemistry, math and statistics.

With eChat, you meet with a tutor in a one-on-one session through an interactive, online environment. When you log into eChat, you view the weekly schedule to see when tutors are available online to discuss your subject area questions with you. Your online tutor will not give you the answers to your problems but will guide you to find those answers yourself.

The offline question service, eQuestion, allows you to leave a specific question for an eTutor, who will respond within 48 hours (but usually sooner).
