COVID-19 Precautions

Hours & Admission

  • Spring hours (through July 6th, 2021) for the National Museum of Psychology and Institute Galleries are:

    • Tuesday - 11am - 4pm 

    • Thursday - 11am - 8pm

  • Through July 6th, all visitors will receive free admission to the museum and galleries. An optional $10 donation is suggested.

  • As of July 6th, we will be resuming our standard admission rates and expanding our open hours to the following:

    • Tuesday - 11am - 4pm
    • Wednesday - 1pm - 8pm
    • Thursday-Saturday - 11am - 4pm
  • Admission will continue to be granted in-person at the museum front desk. Groups are limited to a maximum of 5 individuals, and group members are asked to remain together during their visit.

  • A maximum of 20 visitors will be allowed in the building at any given time to facilitate social distancing. Admission is on a first come, first serve basis, and visitors may be asked to wait before entering if the museum and galleries are at capacity.

  • The Cummings Center and The University of Akron will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19. Hours and protocols may be subject to change, so please check this page for updates before visiting.

Visitor Expectations

  • In accordance with The University of Akron guidelines, fully vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear face coverings in the museum and galleries. We ask that unvaccinated individuals please continue to wear face coverings when in the museum and galleries.

  • If you are feeling sick, experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been around someone who has exhibited symptoms, we ask that you please stay home. Consider exploring our digital repository or online exhibits.

    • If you are able to, please take your temperature at home before leaving. A temperature of 100.4F or greater is considered to be a fever and may be related to COVID-19.

  • Hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the museum and galleries, and regular hand sanitization is encouraged.

  • The museum and galleries are self-guided, and social distancing of at least 6 feet must be observed between unrelated groups. Please yield for others at entrances and exits as necessary.

  • Only one related group will be allowed on the elevator at any given time. Please stand away from elevator doors to allow room for safe entry and exit.

  • Backpacks/large bags, food, and drinks, including water bottles, are not permitted in the museum and galleries.

Exhibit Closures & Cleaning Procedures

  • All exhibits and interactive displays in the museum have been reactivated. Guests are advised to sanitize their hands before and after touching any screens, handles, or exhibit components, and should use discretion in choosing whether to interact with these exhibits.

  • All water fountains are disabled and closed.

  • Restrooms will remain open and will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.

  • Limited seating will be made available and cleaned regularly.

  • High-touch surfaces, including touch screens, handles, and railings, will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. 

  • Plexiglass screens are installed at the front desk and 4th floor reception to minimize contact between staff and visitors.
