Biography

Dr. Toonen began teaching at UA in 2013. He was previously a postdoctoral research associate at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado and a research engineer at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL).  While working at ARL, he received the prestigious 2012 Army Research and Development Achievement (RDA) Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Prior to this career, he had worked in the field of mixed-signal Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) as a design engineer.  Dr. Toonen has been awarded three US Patents and he is the recipient of the 2017 and 2018 NASA Glenn Research Center Faculty Fellowship Program award.
