Biography

MAJ Gregory Boyes:

Major Reed Goodell, born at the 97th U.S. Army General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany in 1976, received his commission through The University of Akron Army ROTC program in 2000.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and commissioned as an Engineer Officer.

After completion of the Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he transferred to Fort Lewis, WA where he was assigned to the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion (Corps Wheeled), 555th Engineer Group between 2001 and 2004.  He served the 2d Platoon Leader of C Company, Construction Officer for the Support Cell for the U.S. Army Cadet Command’s 2003 Cadet Summer Training, and Executive Officer (XO) of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC).  From 2003 to 2004, Reed deployed to Tikrit, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, continuing to serve as the XO of HHC and transferring mid deployment to serve as the Division TAC Battle Captain for the 4th Infantry Division.  His final position within the 14th Engineer Battalion was as the Battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer. 

In 2005, he deployed as a Personal/Engineer Advisor of a Military Transition Team to the Iraqi Army in Makmur, Iraq.  Upon completion of the Captains Career Course Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 2007, he was assigned as the Company Commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company and later of the 693rd Engineer Company (Combat), 7th Engineer Battalion at Fort Drum, NY.  

He deployed as the Operations Officer of the Gulf Region District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Baghdad, Iraq from 2009-2010.  Major Goodell completed the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 2011.  He then served as an Operations Officer for the Facility and Construction Section of the Office Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer, U.S. Army Europe through 2012.  From 2013 through 2015, he served as the Regimental Engineer for the 2d Cavalry Regiment and Operations Officer and Executive Engineer of the Regimental Engineer Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck and Grafenwoehr, Germany.  As Regimental Engineer, he deployed to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan in 2013.

From 2016-2018, Major Goodell served as the Senior Analyst and Assistant Division Chief in the Governance Division of the Army Capabilities and Integration Center at Fort Eustis, VA.   He then served as an Engineer Advisor to the Royal Saudi Land Forces’ (RSLF’s) 8th Engineer Battalion, 8th Mechanized Brigade of the Northwest Area Command and Military Advisor to the RSLF Tabuk Tactical Training Center in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.  He most recently had the pleasure to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the Ohio University until 2021.

Major Goodell resides with his wife of 21 years, Erica, and sons, Josh (16 years old) and Sebastian (9 years old), in Tallmadge, OH.  He holds a Masters of Engineer in Geotechnical Engineering from the Missouri Institute of Science and Technology.  He received the Bronze Star (3d award), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal , the Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2d award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal (3d award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.  Major Goodell is authorized to wear the Valorous Unit Award.
