Applicants must be employed as a licensed teacher or administrator by one of the participating school districts.  Preference will be given to early childhood and elementary teachers.

Non-native speakers of English must meet English proficiency requirements.

Project Description

Through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, The University of Akron is offering training for teachers and administrators from eligible Northeast Ohio districts, who work with English learners.

Teachers/administrators will complete the full Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement (19 credits) over the course of one year
   Summer - 8 credits; Fall - 6 credits; Spring - 5 credits
Passage of the Ohio Assessments for Educators test for English to Speakers of Other Languages is required to add the TESOL endorsement to your credentials.

Program Benefits

If accepted into the program, the grant will pay the associated Ohio resident tuition and most of the fees for the TESOL courses.
