Green To Gold Scholarships

Current Active Duty soldiers who wish to become officers may be eligible for the Green to Gold ROTC Scholarship. The Scholarship is awarded on a competitive merit basis. For the remainder of their undergraduate career their job will be, in effect, to be a college student enrolled in the University of Akron's Army ROTC program. Depending on your which green to gold path you choose, you can either remain on active duty or become a civilian while you attend classes.

Green to Gold Scholarship Opportunities:

100% Tuition and Normal Student Fees Covered by a 2,3 or 4 year scholarship.

  • $300 - $500 Monthly Stipend
  • $600 per semester Book Allowance ($1200 per year)
  • Room and Board Scholarships awarded on a merit basis/MGIB Housing Allowance*
  • Pay for attending the Leader Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) between the junior and senior years of college.
  • *Montgomery G.I. Bill / Army College Fund (MGIB/ACF) benefits.

NEW - Green to Gold Active Duty Option:

The Green to Gold Active Duty Option Program is a two-year program which provides eligible, active duty enlisted soldiers an opportunity to complete a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree and be commissioned as an Army officer upon receiving the appropriate degree.

  • *Montgomery G.I. Bill / Army College Fund (MGIB/ACF) benefits.
  • Soldiers selected to participate in this program will continue to receive their current pay and allowances while in the program (up to a maximum of 24 consecutive months).  This includes Housing and Food allowances.
  • Normal PCS entitlements.

Green to Gold Non-Scholarship Opportunities:

100% Tuition and Normal Student Fees Covered Through Army Reserve or Guard Duty

  • $300 - $500 Monthly Stipend
  • $600 per semester Book Allowance ($1200 per year)
  • Room and Board Scholarships awarded on a merit basis/MGIB Housing Allowance*
  • *Montgomery G.I. Bill ® / Army College Fund (MGIB/ACF) benefits.
  • Green to Gold Non-Scholarship Option members can also participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). As SMPs, soldiers are members of either a drilling Reserve or Guard unit and ROTC. SMPs are entitled to Reserve Component pay of E-5 under this program.
