The University of Akron School of Law’s Moot Court Honors Society hosted a regional round of the American Moot Court Association competition on October 23 and 24, 2026. Twenty-four teams representing thirteen undergraduate institutions competed. The final round saw the team of Alveena James and Mazi Mustafa from Cal. State Fullerton prevail over the team of Naoki Yoshiue and Sheridan Munach from the University of Central Florida.

Current students and members of the Bench and Bar, including Judge Richard Reinbold (Akron Law ’74), Judge Deborah Cook (Akron Law ’78), and Judge Jennifer Hensal (Univ. Akron ’89), served as judges for the competition.

Members of the Moot Court Honors Society Executive Board, Sara Saunders, Kerry Smith, Lynsey Scheneman, Keegan Leis, and Ashley Bierman, spent countless hours planning and running the competition.

Special thanks to Associate Dean Mike Gentithes and Professor Rachael Hancock, who judged both days of the competition, and to Director of IT Joshua Grove for providing tech support.

This competition serves as a fundraiser for the Moot Court Honors Society and is also an opportunity to showcase Akron Law to undergraduate students with an expressed interest in the law.  Thanks to Assistant Director of Admissions Jennifer Browning for attending the competition and meeting with students.

Undergraduate schools represented at the competition were Cal. State Fullerton, Eastern Michigan University, Liberty University, New York University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Saint Vincent College (Pa.), United States Air Force Academy, University of Central Florida, University of Michigan, University of North Texas, and Utah State University.
