Class notes

Anthony J. Alexander, BSA ’72, JD ’75, former president and CEO of FirstEnergy Corp., is UA’s newest executive-in-residence in the College of Business Administration. Alexander will work with students on business communication skills through a variety of activities.

 

Rita E. Fishel, BA ’73, nationally known quilting teacher and author, will be in Streetsboro, Ohio, on September 29 and October 1, leading classes in conjunction with the Streetsboro Quilt Guild’s inaugural Quilts & More Market.

 

James L. Moryan, BSED ’73, MSED ’74, was named dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Delaware Valley University, following a national search. The position was effective July 1.

Timothy C. Ceteras, BSIM ’81, was honored at the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association international conference in Baltimore. Ceteras received the prestigious AFCEA Medal of Merit in recognition of his “incomparable service and consummate record of accomplishment supporting AFCEA International’s Lexington-Concord Chapter.”

 

Following a national search, Richard J. Desrosiers, BA ’85, was named executive editor of GateHouse Ohio Media. He will lead all GateHouse Ohio publications, including The Independent, The Repository (Canton), and The Times-Reporter (Dover/New Philadelphia).

 

Unhee Kim, BSN ’88, was hired as president of Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. Her new leadership role began August 10.

 

L. Greg Slemons, MSED ’89, became treasurer of both the Boardman and the Lowellville school districts. Both districts are in Mahoning County, Ohio.

 

Jeanette A. Strainic McGrath, BSBA ’87, was named manager of channel integration at GE Lighting.

 

Elaine A. Totten, AAS ’80, BSED ’90, MAED ’02, was recognized as Teacher of the Year at the seventh annual Summit County Education Celebration, which recognizes the county’s top teachers who are making a difference in the lives of students. Totten is a 25-year veteran of the classroom and has been teaching in Green Schools for 19 years, currently as a special education teacher at Green High School.

 

Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda R. Tucci Teodosio, BSED ’80, JD ’82, has been elected to serve as the District 11 representative on the board of governors of the Ohio State Bar Association. District 11 includes 1,347 attorneys who reside or practice in Portage and Summit counties.

James M. Christensen, BSBA ’95, was named senior vice president of asset management at InvenTrust Properties Corporation.

 

Felisha Gould Cheatem, MS ’96, MSED ’99, was named an assistant superintendent with the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school district.

 

Fedearia A. Nicholson, BA ’95, MPA ’97, assistant vice president for student success at The University of Akron, has been named to the latest class of Leadership Akron.

 

Jeffrey P. Rust, JD ’99, MBA ’02, recently was selected by his peers at Farrell Fritz for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2016. Only 4 percent of attorneys in the United State are recognized with this honor.

Patrick L. Bravo, MPA ’07, JD ’07, is running for an open spot on the Akron School Board. He currently works as executive director of the Summit County Land Bank and has been a school board member since winning as a write-in candidate in 2010.

 

Terri E. Brunsdon, MT ’00, JD ’07, has joined Day Ketterer in the practice of law and will provide sophisticated tax advice to the firm’s clients.

 

Albert Lewis Jr., MAED ’05, was named vice president of economic and workforce development by Bellevue College in Washington. In this role, he works to expand the college’s outreach in the business, industry, and economic development sectors while responding to local economic development and training needs for both credit and noncredit programs.

 

Ryan R. McNeil, JD ’09, is the new vice-chair of the Akron Bar Association.

 

Kimberly J. Young, BS ’04, a high-risk team leader at FirstMerit Corp, is one of the Greater Akron Chamber’s “30 for the Future” award winners.

Zachary D. D’Orazio, AAS ’14, BS ’14, has re-signed with the New England Patriots as a wide receiver.

 

Antoinette C. George, BA ’12, became the third generation of her family to handle daily operations of Akron’s family-owned Tangier restaurant. She is responsible for advertising, public relations, social media, and the website.

 

Maria A. Puglisi, BA ’13, is returning to the Cleveland area to perform at the State Theatre on October 29 as a cast member of the musical Alvin and the Chipmunks.

 

Richard P. Schroeter Jr., JD ’12, is the new secretary/treasurer of the Akron Bar Association.
