AKRON MAGAZINE
The year 2017 saw The University of Akron Alumni Association reach out to alumni and friends throughout the Midwest and beyond. William “Willy” Kollman, Executive Director of Government & Alumni Relations, says the Zips alumni community can expect more of the same in 2018.
Summer Social outreach engaged more than 1,000 alumni and friends in California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas and Ohio.
Closer to home, the Association added watch a party event for The Akron Marathon, and strengthened its presence at UA Commencement, Senior Week and Homecoming.
Kollman says merchandise sales in 2017, including shirts, mugs and coasters, raised more than $5,000, with a portion of all sales going to the Making a Difference, Moving Forward scholarship campaign. The Association expects to launch an online store with limited edition items, both old and new, by early December, with most proceeds going to scholarships.
The UA Legacy Program and Alumni Corporate Clubs will allow alumni and friends to better and more quickly engage with their alma mater.
“Our UA Legacy Program will add value to student dependents of UA alumni, including free UA gear, club seating at the Kent State-UA football game, as well as other events,” Kollman says. “Alumni Corporate Clubs will allow the Alumni Association to engage alumni in their workplaces through morning breakfasts, Zippy appearances and updates on UA.”
Stay tuned, Zips.
