The Cummings Center building, a 4-story brick structure

Preserving Psychology's Past

The Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology is located at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. It is a unique institution that cares for, provides access to, and interprets the historical record of psychology and related human sciences.

The Cummings Center includes the National Museum of Psychology, which highlights artifacts, documents, films, and photographs from the history of the human sciences. It is home to the Archives of the History of American Psychology, comprised of a vast collection of artifacts, media, and documents, including the personal papers of many important psychologists. We also share space and resources with the Institute for Human Science and Culture, Akron's hands-on humanities center.

The Cummings Center opens its doors to scholars, students of all ages, and visitors from across the globe who come to view and work with these one-of-a-kind collections.

The Cummings Center is located on the ancestral lands of many Indigenous Nations: Seneca, Cayuga, Lenni Lenape/Delaware, Miami, Shawnee, Wyandot/Wyandotte/Wendat/Huron, Ottawa/Odawa/Odowa, Chippewa/Ojibwe/Ojibway. These lands were ceded in the 1805 Treaty of Fort Industry and tribes forcibly removed through the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
