Crystal Room Bistro to host etiquette luncheon

04/01/2015

The University of Akron’s Crystal Room Bistro, located in Gallucci Hall at 360 Grant St. in Akron, will host an etiquette luncheon for girls in a Good Hope Baptist Church (Akron) mentoring program on Saturday, April, 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The luncheon will include a four-course meal prepared by UA hospitality management students and a presentation on the history of dining by Clarence Edmonds, special instructor in the program and former guest services manager for 19 years at the Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron.

“We’re excited to be able to share a part of the University of Akron experience with these young girls,” says Edmonds. “For all of us it’s a way we can give back to the Akron community, and we appreciate the opportunity.”

The mentoring program, called the Ruth Group, includes 12 girls aged 7 to 17 and is led by Elaine Irvin, a UA library associate and Good Hope Baptist Church member. The program is intended “to help and guide young ladies to be productive adults and to expose them to cultural arts, events, activities and tools needed to be successful in life,” Irvin says.

The Crystal Room Bistro serves lunch Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and hosts the “Talk of the Town” dinner series on Thursday nights, 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.
