The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities announces on July 9 that The University of Akron will be one of seven urban research universities participating in a one-year, innovative project that seeks to transform the way higher education is delivered. UA receives a $225,000 grant for the initiative, which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

On Sept. 2, the Employers Resource Council announces that The University of Akron has been selected as one of the 99 best places to work in Northeast Ohio. It is the sixth time that UA has won the NorthCoast 99 Award.
