Grant helps launch online entrepreneurship institute at UA

05/09/2019

The University of Akron’s H. Kenneth Barker Center for Economic Education, part of the LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education, was awarded a $20,000 grant by the Burton D. Morgan Foundation to promote entrepreneurship education across Northeast Ohio schools through online modules of its teacher training institute for middle and high school teachers.

The 2019 Teacher Institute: Entrepreneurship & STEM Education, planned for July 22-26, will train teachers to develop and integrate entrepreneurship education in their classrooms. The Morgan Foundation grant will be used to create professional course materials that can be accessed by anyone after the teacher institute has ended, including online modules with videos and standards-based curriculum guides. This is the third year the center has hosted its annual teacher institute.

“This gracious award by the Burton D. Morgan Foundation will help us better prepare middle and high school teachers to nurture a wave of needed entrepreneurs in our community and country,” said Dr. Brad Maguth, director of the Barker Center.

Deborah Hoover, president and CEO of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation stated, “Burton D. Morgan Foundation seeks to make entrepreneurship education widely accessible to teachers by assisting them in the selection of curricula best suited to their classrooms, educational priorities, and student needs. We are pleased to join forces with the Barker Center to help them deliver their online videos as a free online resource available to all educators.”
