The YES redesign for the UA website

UA website editors can now begin creating new pages following the YES rebranding - starting with the pages identified in the site map. New to dotCMS (or need a refresher)?

  1. Create a new page in dotCMS with a temporary name
  2. Use the Worksheet as a guide, add in the new Widgets with your content
  3. Save your new page.
  4. When we're ready to re-launch the site, rename the pages to make the new page live.

For content that will be pulled to a central page with a Plug-in - like Profiles or academic Program details - you'll instead:

  1. Create Related content first (like Cards or Checkerboards), if applicable - saving and noting the names.
  2. Use the Content | Search and select the type of content you'll be adding.
  3. Use the Worksheet as guide, create a new content item and fill in your information.
  4. Relate the additional content as needed.
  5. Save and Publish your new content.

Let's get started!

Create a new page in dotCMS with a temporary name

Rather than starting from scratch with the UA website, we're going to create new pages with temporary names in existing folders.

Example: If we are recreating a page with a file name of "index.dot", the new page will have a temporary name of "index2.dot".

(For the Page Title, refer to the Title on your Worksheet.)

We'll be using these new templates.  Click for a step by step guide to creating pages:

Save your new page

During this rebuild process, we'll want to Save - but not Publish - our new pages with temporary names.

More details on Saving and Publishing (and Unpublishing) are in the Terminology guide.

When we're ready to re-launch the site, rename the pages to make the new page live

Unless a page (or image or document...) has a link pointing to it, it's effectively hidden.  By renaming our pages, we can change what is visible on the UA website.

  1. Rename the current page to an "archive" name and Save/Publish
  2. Rename the new page - with the temporary name - to the name of the current page and Save/Publish

This makes the new page the one that people will see on the main website - without updating all the links that point to it.
