Overview
Prepare to make a difference in inclusive classrooms with a dual licensure degree in Middle Level Education. This program equips you to teach grades 4–9 in two subject areas—language arts, math, science, or social studies—while also earning licensure as an Intervention Specialist for students with mild to moderate learning needs. Through hands-on field experiences, expert instruction, and a focus on inclusive practices, you'll graduate ready to support diverse learners in public, private, and charter school settings.

Career Outcomes
Graduates of this program are licensed to teach in two core subject areas for grades 4–9 and serve as Intervention Specialists for students with mild to moderate learning needs. This dual preparation opens the door to a range of roles, including:
Middle school teacher (language arts, math, science, or social studies)
Intervention Specialist (grades 4–9)
Inclusion support teacher
Special education co-teacher
Instructional support or resource teacher
Curriculum or literacy coach
RTI (Response to Intervention) specialist
You’ll also be prepared for graduate study in education leadership, curriculum design, or special education.
Students can become a certified Structured Literacy Specialist by completing the practicum and passing the KPEERI exam.
